The legendary Yo-Yo Ma will grace Macao with the cultural diversity and richness of The Silk Road Ensemble. Although the silk routes from East to West are no longer in use, Ma will trade in the hidden music in a free-spirited way connecting people and cultures.

Multifaceted virtuoso, Yo-Yo Ma has been a trailblazer, always searching new ways to communicate ideas through music. Born in Paris to Chinese parents and established in New York, he studied cello at the Juilliard School, and later went to Harvard University. He recorded more than 75 albums, including 16 Grammy award winners and was bestowed with numerous prizes and accolades. In 1998, Ma founded The Silk Road Project to promote the study of cultural, artistic and intellectual traditions along the ancient Silk Routes, to bring artists together from diverse cultures and to convey the spirit of a place through music. The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma concerts are the most well-known and acclaimed activities among their cross-cultural exchanges, residencies and workshops.

The collective gathers renowned musicians, composers and arrangers from more than 20 countries. Each member innovates and approaches music in a modern way while maintaining the art rooted in an authentic tradition. The Silk Road Ensemble has recorded four albums and performed to critical acclaim throughout Asia, Europe and North America. With Yo-Yo Mas music, the audience will embrace in a journey through the ancient and enigmatic Silk Routes. Join us to feel the brilliance of the most revered cellist ever and his rousing music!
