The German solid sound of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (SWR) and its enticing repertoire will mark CCMs 2010 classical music season. In this great debut under the baton of Sir Roger Norrington, the Orchestra will play works of great masters of Russia and Englands Romanticism, as well as one of the major composers of the Classical period.
The Orchestra was established in 1945, concentrating on its exemplary interpretations of the great classics and romantic repertoire, as well as focusing on composers and masterpieces unfamiliar to the audience. It performs around 90 concerts a year in Germany and abroad and gained an emphasized status on the music scene. Either through radio broadcastings of the concerts or at the best concert halls, the orchestra won devoted followers worldwide.
In 1998, Sir Roger Norrington joined the Orchestra as the Principal Conductor, praising the sound of the early instruments with the resources available to a modern orchestra, being closer to each composers concept of sound. The result has been hailed by critics as "the Stuttgart Sound". Norrington attaches great importance to the composers from Viennese Classicism, Beethoven especially, to romanticism, focusing on Berlioz, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Bruckner.
The American-born Chinese pianist, Claire Huangci, is a young awarded musician that has enlightened stages in Europe, Africa, Asia and America. In her first appearance in Macao, the piano soloist will play one of last centurys greatest composers, Prokofievs Piano Concerto No 3". As part of the programme, the Orchestra will also perform the classical masterpiece Symphony No. 101 The Clock" by Haydn and Enigma Variations" by Elgar, the highly praised British composer.
